After two good wins (and no lost games) on both Thursday & Friday, we came up against Stonyhurst. We also welcomed our captain, Mike Jones, who had tested positive earlier in the week & thus had been unable to join the Team other than via evening Team Zoom calls, as well as bringing in Tom Watson, our travelling reserve, to replace Jez Silver.
The Team again played very well in beautifully sunny & little wind conditions - was this really the Hewitt ! The first three matches were all won by the 17th Hole so onto the Quarter-Final in the afternoon against a Radley who also had lost NO matches to date.
We were confident & our previous track record against Radley supported this. 5 vg drives off the difficult first tee encouraged us still further, but alas we did not play as well as we should, particularly around/ on the greens. Whilst we looked to be winning in Matches 4 (Tom Watson & Angus Creighton) & 5 (Adam Williams & Jack Bennett), it was to no avail as the top 3 Matches all lost by the 17th Hole. A deserved win on the day for Radley.
The Team all stayed down for Saturday night in Ramsgate, which was great
There is no doubt we have a very strong team & squad & we can win it, but we must play well throughout all 6 Rounds. There is also now an excellent team spirit/ camaderie which bodes well for the future, as well as good accommodation & dining arrangements in place.
Onto 2023 , but we must do well in the Grafton Morrish - qualifier next month at Denham
