It was so lovely to have a recent email conversation with Bradfieldian James Allcock (F 48-53) OBE MA who shared his memories of playing Agamemnon's servant in the 1949 production.
James said of the photograph above "I’m on the right-hand side of the steps, aged thirteen, in my headband and leopard skin outfit, with left foot on step two and right foot on step three (slightly obscured by the spears) !!!!"
"Sadly it didn’t lead on to an acting career, but I can still remember the Greek phrase which triggered my rushing across the stage and removing the sandals from Agamemnon’s feet. (He was then Head of School)."
Clytemnestra was a Prefect in Hillside at the time (John Ackroyd). Agamemnon was played by Harry Joynt. More pictures of the play and copies of the Bradfield Chronicle at the time are included in a Photo Gallery below.
We would love to hear any memories you would like to share about your time at Bradfield.
