A rare find in the College Nature Reserve

Pottery dating back to 1862

While working in the College Nature Reserve behind the Sports Centre this week the Gardens team stumbled across an antique pot which looks like a vase. The item seems to be dated 1862 and has the original College crest on it featuring the words St Andrew’s College Bradfield.

It is quite damaged around the rim and base from its time hidden in the undergrowth, but lovely to see the original College logo on the item as shown in the pictures above and below.

We know that the College had branded crockery in the past as it occasionally turns up on sale or in home clearances, but it is fun to see the emergence of this very old pottery on site.
