It is nearly five years ago that Benedict Allen (E 73-78) hit the headlines on his last visit to Southeast Asia. Since then he has written and is now publishing a thoughtful account of what happened when he visited Papua New Guinea in 2017. The Times review says: While putting the record straight and revealing much about Papua New Guinea, his fascinating book mounts a spirited defence of why we need exploration now as much as ever. As he puts it, it’s no longer “about going somewhere in order to make a mark — it’s about the opposite. It’s about opening yourself up, allowing yourself to be vulnerable and letting the place and people make their mark on you”.
The book is available from 3 March 2022 from all book sellers and is titled: Explorer: The Quest for Adventure and the Great Unknown.
