We are sorry to hear of the recent passing of John McCann on 30 June 2024 from his wife Sybella. He was in College B House 1951-56 and involved in the CCF, Hockey, enjoying his time at Bradfield and was one of the pupils responsible for starting the Sailing Club.

In fact he left behind the McCann Trophy which was presented for best individual helmsman for many years and was Captain of Sailing from 1954-56.

The Bradfield Chronicle at the time reads "Much of the team's success must be atrributed to J W H McCann, the Captain, who was unbeaten in any School match, and captained the team outstandingly throughout the term." In his final year at College B House won the first Interhouse Competition and they presented a tankard for the outstending helmsman which McCann deservedly achieved. He also won the Dreadhought Trophy at Reading University in the summer after he left Bradfield and went on to sail in the Public Schools Firefly Championships crewed by Robin Ede.
