David Bollans (C 49-53) sadly passed away on 17th January aged 85.
David was a proud OB and back in 2012 he recalled his time at College:
I have had a lifelong affection for Bradfield. In my time I took part in the Centenary celebrations in Greeker as a member of the chapel choir, and especially Commemoration of the War Memorial after the war. Apart from all the other benefits from being a Bradfieldian from Army House; one of the lasting experiences has in fact been my introduction to choral singing and the chance to perform as a chorister in major venues both in this country, on the continent and even New York. I owe it all to the audition for the chapel choir immediately after my arrival, for which I was advised by the wags in the house to fail otherwise I could end up in the choir! I still use my copy of Hadyn's Creation that we sang accompanied by the Reading Symphony Orchestra in '51.
David had been very involved with the St Peters Singers in Heswall where he had been Chairman for many years and also with the Chester Music Society choir where he had been one of the leaders on a number of overseas choir tours.
As part of David's 80th birthday celebrations, his son in law Chris arranged for a surprise visit back to college (see picture above). Both Chris and grandson Oscar joined David on the tour hosted by Al MacEwen. David thoroughly enjoyed day which had been a very memorable and special occasion.
