Moving the Bradfield Society Mixed Doubles Tennis Tournament for charity ‘Give It Your Max’ to June this year from its traditional time in April proved the perfect tonic to increased numbers and a fabulous day on Sunday 11 June 2023.
The Bradfield Clay Courts looked splendid and the new marquee near them provided very welcome shade and was a perfect shelter from which to run the annual tournament. This year we had 20 pairs join us including Bradfieldians, current parents and pupils, prospective parents and pupils and with the help of Kirsty Richardson (K 97-99 formerly Hamilton-Smith) many players this year also came from St Andrew’s Prep School too, where Kirsty is now a parent. Other Bradfieldians who joined were: Anna Moss-Gibbons (I 95-97) who came along with her son Noah, Anna’s friend and Bradfieldian Annie Stratford (J 95-97), Aidan Meynell (D 88-93), Christian Ward (F 15-17) and former member of staff Nickie Moss-Gibbons watching the morning’s play.
It was as usual a fun and friendly tournament playing 18 minutes against each pair in four ability graded groups and then proceeding to a Final and Semi final which was finally won by Henry Beddard and his daughter Chloe who is joining the College in 2025. The runners up were friends of Bradfield and the family of Lorna Cowan who works for GIYM – Barry Cowan and Georgia (who is only 9 years of age) - who finished a very close second in the final match.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and for your generous entry payment which raised £660 for Give It Your Max and for your support for the Raffle which raised additional money for the charity on the day.
Thank you very much to Lorna Cowan from Give It Your Max for all her help on the day, Bradfield Tennis for use of the courts and the donation of balls and to Freddie (C 93-98) and Mike Stotesbury (E 56-60) and their friends for coming along and to Freddie for playing in this year’s tournament.
Looking forward to next year and to seeing you all again.
